If you are living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or kidney failure, it can be difficult to know how to enjoy eating out or having a takeaway.

"Making a ‘fakeaway’ at home is often better for people with kidney disease," explains Angeline Taylor, Kidney Kitchen kidney dietitian. "When you cook at home, you know exactly what is going into the meal and can keep the salt lower. You can choose ingredients that suit your needs and avoid hidden additives. Takeaways often contain a lot of salt and extra ingredients you might not expect, and you can’t always tell what’s in them. A homemade meal gives you the same tasty flavours, but in a way that’s easier to manage and more suitable for you."

When it comes to food and nutrition, there is no one-size-fits-all advice for people living with kidney disease. If you have CKD stage 4 or 5, your kidney dietitian will offer you personalised nutrition advice and support. Kidney Kitchen makes CKD diet recommendations easy to follow, with recipes that have been analysed by kidney dietitians and approved by the BDA Renal Nutrition Group and are suitable for people living with all stages of CKD.
