Hospital Grants

Kidney Care UK is the UK’s leading kidney patient support charity, working to improve the quality of life for people affected by kidney disease. One of the ways we support kidney patients is through our Hospital Grants programme, which aims to improve patient outcomes by funding improvements to kidney services.

Over the last five years alone the charity has provided over £10 million in funding for 70 hospital renal units around the UK.

The Kidney Care UK Hospital Grants programme

Kidney Care UK accepts grant applications from hospital trusts, renal units, KPAs and other associated bodies or organisations to help deliver better equipment and innovative services that improve the health and wellbeing of kidney patients and their families.

It is important to remember that we will only consider grant applications if funds are not available from the hospital trust or other relevant authority.

We are unlikely to fund projects considered to be core NHS provision.

We are currently reviewing our grants programme to ensure we remain as effective as possible in supporting healthcare teams to deliver improvements in care for patients. You may well have been asked to help us by being part of the review.

We will confirm the date of the next grant round as soon as we are able. Thank you.

Key guidelines for Hospital Grant applications

We have recently reviewed our grants paperwork and processes to ensure that our charitable funds work as hard as possible and make the greatest impact on the quality of patients' lives. Please ensure that you read the guidelines before applying.

Hospital Grants: core themes

Although the charity will consider applications for new ideas that are innovative and improve life for patients, we particularly welcome applications that support our priorities:

  • children and young adults, including transition
  • psychosocial support
  • patient choice including shared and self-care and home therapies
  • patient involvement and empowerment
  • end of life care
  • increasing transplantation
  • improving the quality of and access to patient information and support
  • supporting a stronger, more cohesive kidney community.

Kidney Care UK looks favourably on new and innovative projects that show evidence of improving patient care and quality of life for adults and children with kidney disease.
