Athletes with transplants of all abilities, from age three to over 80, will compete at the 2025 Westfield Health British Transplant Games next summer in Oxford.
Transplant Active (formerly known as Transplant Sport) launched the Games at an event on 5 December at Blenheim Palace, one of the venues where athletes from over 60 hospital teams across the UK will compete in 24 events, raising awareness of the life-saving benefits of transplantation and empowering transplant recipients to stay active after their recovery.
Kidney Care UK is proud to sponsor the British Transplant Games, which have been running for over 40 years. We will provide financial support to over the half the teams, making it possible for them to attend and represent their transplant unit. Of the 7,500 people waiting for an organ transplant in the UK, 6,250 are waiting for a kidney.
After welcoming the European Transplant Games in 2022, this will be the first time Oxford hosts the British Transplant Games. The 2024 Games were held in Nottingham.
Transplant Active also launched their new identity at the event. The re-brand reflects the ambitions of the charity to empower transplant recipients to optimise their gift of life through an active lifestyle.
We warmly invite businesses, families, and the local community to support the Games in Oxford, and I would like to thank the Oxford Kidney Unit Trust Fund for their generous support of the Games. Together, we can celebrate the inspiring achievements of transplanted athletes and honour the gift of life through promoting the critical importance of organ donation.Dr Paul Harden, Chair of Transplant Active and the 2025 British Transplant Games
