Investing in a kidney patient caravan to enable 300 people live their lives to the full

Kidney Care UK are delighted to have provided £48,000 in funding for the South East Scotland Kidney Patients Association (SESKPA) to replace their holiday caravan.

The caravan, which can accommodate up to eight people, is located in the Berwick Holiday Centre and is available for members of the local Kidney Patient Associations (SESKPA and Fife KPA) to book for respite breaks. Members of these associations are able to book the caravan from now until the end of October 2, providing up to 300 patients, carers and family members with access to a period of rest and relief, a distraction from the relentlessness of their disease and often gruelling dialysis treatment.

The new caravan has ramp access to ease entry for all users. Kidney Care UK previously funded a caravan on the site from 2013, and this new caravan will replace the previous model.

Laurie Cuthbert, Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications at Kidney Care UK, said: “Kidney disease affects one in ten people, yet despite this there is a lack of awareness as to just how much of an impact the disease can have. We’re really excited to be working with the SESKPA to fund a new caravan for the local kidney community. Being able to get away from the day to day rigours of kidney disease can make a huge difference, and allow families to have a break away together, sometimes for the very first time.”

Bill McDonald, Chairman of SESKPA, added: “SESKPA appreciate the support from Kidney Care UK in providing the funds to enable the procurement of a modern caravan which provides users with a functional holiday facility located in a fully established holiday caravan park.”
