Alice and Alfie's London Marathon 2025 diary

Meet Alfie and Alice, two of our 2025 London Marathon runners!

Two years ago, at the age of 21, Alfie had a kidney transplant, with a kidney donated by his mum after living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) from the age of 4. While recovering from his transplant, Alfie struggled with his mental health. Alfie's girlfriend Alice, and Alfie's family, spoke with his kidney transplant team who put him contact with the Nottingham Transplant team.

They helped Alfie get back into playing sport and he went on to represent England at the first football transplant World Cup in September 2024! His friends also persuaded him to run his first ever half-marathon only eight months after his transplant and now he wants to push himself even further to complete the London Marathon 2025.

I’ve always wanted to do the London Marathon, so it was pretty much a dream come true! To run it for a charity so close to my heart is amazing, really.
Alfie, on getting a place running for Kidney Care UK

Alice is running with Alfie to support him and to raise awareness of Kidney Care UK and CKD, and to show anyone who has had a kidney transplant that they can get back into sport, running and do anything they want to.

They are both excited and a little nervous, so watch along as they train together for the London Marathon 2025!
