TCS London Marathon 2024 T&Cs
Charity places will be allocated via an application process. All applications received will be considered on an ongoing basis and all be offered before December 2023. Kidney Care UK (“KCUK”, “The Charity”, “We”, “Our”) reserve the right to close applications at any point.
The following terms and conditions have been written to make clear the obligations of KCUK and the runner, should they be successful in their application.
I will raise a minimum of £2,500 sponsorship (excl. gift Aid) by June 2024
On race day (21 April 2024) I will be at least 18 years of age
To ensure 100% of donations raised on and offline, will come to KCUK and won’t be split with other charities
To inform Kidney Care UK at the earliest possible opportunity if I have had to withdraw from or cancel my event due to injury or other circumstances
To be responsible for completing the official event registration system ahead of the specified deadline
To promote all fundraising activities in line with fundraising Regulator standards and applying for collector and gambling licenses where required
To have raised at least £500 by 1 December 2023 (or have agreement with The Charity based on when you were offered your place)
To not resell or offer for auction any Kidney Care UK merchandise without prior permission
To show the charity any material bearing the Kidney Care UK name or logo, or that discusses the work of the organisation, prior to printing and distribution
To use my best endeavours to raise money for KCUK, and not do anything to bring Kidney Care UK into disrepute
Kidney Care UK agree:
When offering a charity place, KCUK will confirm, in writing, the registration fee and minimum fundraising pledge for the place
To clearly communicate the official registration process and deadline
We will provide charity runners with full fundraising and training support
To send charity runners a fundraising pack and technical t-shirt / vest* once fundraising commences
If, unless otherwise agreed, no funds have been raised by 1 February 2024, KCUK reserves the right to withdraw a runner’s place
All applications must be submitted via the KCUK website
Charity places will be offered over the telephone in the first instance. Due to the demand in places, we will attempt to contact applicants via phone, a maximum of three times, and email (via contact details given on the application). If no response is received, within one working week of our last attempt, KCUK reserve the right to offer the place to the next applicant.
The Charity assess deferrals on a case-by-case basis.
The registration fee is £50 per charity place and is non-refundable, unless agreed otherwise with KCUK.
Charity places will be offered by KCUK, however runners are required to register officially with London Marathon Events Ltd (LMEL) to fully secure their place
An entry link will be sent to successful runners directly by LMEL. Runners are required to follow the link to complete their registration before the specified deadline. The deadline is governed by LMEL and no extensions will be given under any circumstance. Although KCUK will communicate this, extension is outside of KCUK’s control
LMEL reserve the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse to allow entry to the Event to any runner
Failure to complete the official registration will mean the place will be lost
We recommend using online fundraising pages for The TCS London Marathon. The official fundraising partner for the Event is ‘Enthuse’ but we also recommend JustGiving.
Gift Aid cannot be included in your fundraising total as this isn’t guaranteed on all donations. However, KCUK encourage sponsors (if they eligible) to Gift Aid their donations– as this could increase your overall fundraising by 25% at no extra cost to them or the runner.
If runners are unable to raise the £2,500 minimum sponsorship or need extra time to do so, we encourage them to let KCUK know so arrangements can be made to support them.
The TCSLM 2024 is also a public balloted event and we encourage runners to apply for a ballot place as well as complete a charity application. If successful in gaining a charity place as well as a ballot place, KCUK requests runner to notify them as soon as possible as this will allow us to allocate the charity place to another applicant.
The public ballot for TCSLM 2024 will open on Sunday 23 April 2023 for up to 6 days.
The Charity cannot take responsibility for any injury, losses or damage caused or sustained as a result of participation in the event but will ensure that LMEL complies with their legal and safety regulations.
* Item of clothing may differ depending on availability
Is there a cost to applying?
No, applying for a place is free. However, if you are offered a place, there is a £50 registration fee and a minimum fundraising target of £2,500, per place.
How many places do Kidney Care UK have for 2024?
We have 75 places to offer for 2024. To give you an idea, we receive over 200 applications each year, so make sure you share as much information as you can, to help us understand what the place would mean to you.
Why should I apply for a charity place?
As well as raising money and supporting a cause that means a lot, charity places are guaranteed spots in the race which aren’t impacted by the public ballot places (see details below).
As well as this, you will het all the below support as well from our fundraising team:
- FREE Kidney Care UK technical running vest or t-shirt
- Facebook group to meet other runners and find all the latest event updates
- Invitation to our Strava club and Whatsapp group
- Fundraising pack with tons of fundraising materials
- Access to our Training hub and webinar with London Marathon experts
- Cheer points on route for family and friends to join
- Extra goodies along the way!
How do I apply for a place with Kidney Care UK?
You must submit an application via our website to be considered and all applications are looked at on a rolling basis. We offer places purely based on the strength of the application, so make sure you take your time to share with us why you want to take on the challenge for us.
When will I know whether I’ve got a place or not?
We will offer places on an ongoing basis, but will let everyone know the outcome of their application by October 2023.
Why is the minimum sponsorship target so high?
All charities purchase their places in the London Marathon, so our £2,500 target is set to make sure that your donations and fundraising efforts, have the biggest impact for kidney patients, and not simply covering the cost of your place.
What if I can’t raise the target?
Our fundraising team are here to support you throughout your fundraising journey, so we would first recommend staying in touch and sharing any concerns you have. Fundraising is hard – and we appreciate the target can be daunting, but we are happy to offer extra time and support to help you reach it.
You don’t need to have raised the full amount before race day (we know 20% of your total can be raised after the day itself!) so don’t focus on race day as the fundraising finish line.
As in our T&Cs, if no funds have been raised by 1 February 2024 the charity have the right to withdraw your place. We will be in touch ahead of this to try and support you in making the most of your fundraising first.
If I apply for a charity place, can I also enter the public ballot?
Yes, double your chances and enter both. There’s no harm in that!
If I get a charity place but are no longer able to run, what are my options?
Please let us know if you are no longer able to take part. As the place belongs to Kidney Care UK, we have to withdraw/swap any places. Empty charity places can be rolled into the following year, but are decided on case by case basis and cannot be guaranteed. So get in touch and we will do what we can.
Can I run for Kidney Care UK and another charity with my place?
If you are offered one of our charity places, all fundraising and donations MUST be raised for Kidney Care UK only. If you gain a place through the public ballot, you can support whichever charities you wish.
