David's story: living with kidney disease

David was diagnosed with kidney failure at just one week old. He became the youngest person in Northern Ireland to receive a transplant when his dad donated a kidney to him.

Nearly every six weeks we were being admitted to hospital.

We met David and his mum Elizabeth at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

David received his first kidney transplant as a toddler, when his dad donated a kidney to him. Sadly, within ten months the kidney started to be rejected and David and his family had to cope with constant hospital admissions.

Now aged 10, David has recently received a second kidney transplant.
