Kidney Care UK’s Chair of Trustees awarded UKKA Lifetime Achievement Award 2025

Kidney Care UK’s Chair of Trustees Dr Graham Lipkin was recognised earlier this month at UK Kidney Week with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UK Kidney Association (UKKA). Celebrating a career that has included pioneering clinical research, leadership in guiding national kidney policy, and the mentorship of hundreds of clinicians, Dr Lipkin accepted the award on stage in Bournemouth on 11 June.

Dr Lipkin is Consultant Nephrologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Chair of Trustees at Kidney Care UK. He was appointed to our Board of Trustees in 2021. As a nephrologist, he has authored 124 publications and been cited over 5,500 times, contributing to significant advancements in understanding of kidney disease in pregnancy and in rare renal conditions, where his work helped lead to the establishment of the Centre for Rare Diseases in Birmingham.

As Past President of UKKA, Dr Lipkin has been a leading voice in shaping national kidney policy, co-authoring the influential GIRFT (Getting It Right the First Time) national report for renal medicine.

The nomination also highlighted Dr Lipkin's legacy as a mentor to countless doctors and nurses, and his talent for clear and engaging communications on complex topics such as rare diseases and patient-centred care.

Graham has been such an inspirational figure in our kidney community for so many years. His warmth, wisdom and leadership have influenced so many of us, and it’s hard to think of anyone more deserving of this award. We are delighted to see his contributions recognised in this way.
